Pietari Inkinen Conducts Beethoven Marathon

June 30th 2014 -

The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra under their Music Director Pietari Inkinen completed a cycle of Beethoven´s nine symphonies, performed consecutively over four days and described by Wellington´s Dominion Post as "a masterclass" and "the most memorable orchestral concerts seen and heard in recent memory."

Performing the famous nine symphonies back-to-back In Wellington and repeated in Auckland, this marked the NZSO´s first Beethoven cycle since 1995.

Writing for the Wellington Dominion, Anne McKinnon summarised the entire cycle -

"…the NZSO performances were nothing but an outstanding success. All symphonies were magnificently played, the last one including the wonderful Orpheus choir and four splendid soloists. The musicality, energy and commitment showed that such excellence only comes from hard work and superb leadership. The last symphony yielded a well-earned, standing ovation from the entire audience - something we haven´t seen for a
long time."
