Pietari Inkinen´s began his tenure of Chief Conductor of the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie with two concerts on 8th and 10th September. The programme included the world premiere of Einojuhani Rautavaara´s last completed orchestral work, In the Beginning. He also conducted Berg´s Violin Concerto with Carolin Widmann as soloist and Beethoven´s Symphony No. 4 to great acclaim from the local press. Die Saarbruecken Zeitung commented on the Beethoven, describing him as a "virtuoso of tension who can condense a Beethoven symphony as if it were chamber music" and Die Rheinpfalz wrote that "Inkinen allows the music to reveal itself, to flow, not to be broken by eccentric interpretation. One could say he takes Beethoven at his word. And he did have something to say throughout, which made the audience rightly impressed with the debut of the new Chief Conductor."
