Concerts with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra

On August 2 and 3, Pietari Inkinen returns to Australia to conduct two concerts with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the iconic Sydney Opera House, with a compelling program including the world premiere of Liza Lim’s “Salutations to the Shells”, Sergey Prokofiev’s “Sinfonia Concertante”, where he joins forces with virtuoso cellist Alban Gerhardt, and Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4.

Pietari Inkinen’s collaboration with Alban Gerhardt dates back more than twenty years, when the German cellist happened to be the soloist at Inkinen’s international breakthrough: While still a conducting student at the Sibelius Academy, young Pietari jumped in to save a concert with the Helsinki Philharmonic.

The Finnish conductor is a renowned name in Australia. In addition to numerous concerts, he conducted “Der Ring des Nibelungen” for Opera Australia in 2013 and 2016 to rave reviews and such high acclaim that he won two awards: Australia’s Helpmann Awards in 2014 for Best Music Direction and a Green Room Award for Best Opera Conductor in 2016.
