Sibelius and Bartók at Suntory Hall
On November 27, Pietari Inkinen returns to Tokyo for a concert at Suntory Hall, leading the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra in a programme centred on Sibelius and Bartók. Polish pianist Piotr Anderszewski appears as soloist in Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 3.
The concert opens with Sibelius’s symphonic fantasy Pohjola’s Daughter, followed by Bartók’s final piano concerto No. 3. Recognised worldwide for his thoughtful, finely sculpted interpretations, pianist Piotr Anderszewski is a frequent guest with major orchestras.
After the interval, the orchestra continues with Sibelius’s The Swan of Tuonela and the Symphony No. 7, a work often regarded as his most concentrated symphonic statement.
Founded in 1962, the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra is one of Japan’s leading ensembles, performing a broad range of symphonic and contemporary works throughout its regular Tokyo season.
